CBC students meet the agents

by Rufus Purdy Events, Our Courses

The ‘meet the literary agents’ drink session, which takes place at the end of our London creative writing courses, was held last night in our offices, and students on our Six-Month Novel-Writing Course took a break from learning how to write a novel to come and pitch their books to the literary agents from Curtis Brown and Conville & Walsh, along with some bubbles and crisps. A feature of all our office-based courses, this informal drinks evening marks the culmination of the students’ studies and offers them the opportunity to talk to those they’d most like to represent their work. A number of ex-CBC students now work with agents here and, in many cases, the initial connection was made during the ‘meet the agents’ evening. Much fun was had, nerves were quickly got over and all the wine was drunk by 8.30 – after which everyone decamped to the nearest pub, clutching copies of books by Stephen Kelman and Jojo Moyes, kindly provided by agents Clare Conville and Sheila Crowley. Will some of our current crop of students find representation for their novels at Curtis Brown or Conville & Walsh? Watch this space…

As well as expert teaching from published authors, all our selective three- and six-month novel-writing courses offer dedicated modules on submitting your novel to literary agents – and include sessions on writing a synopsis and preparing a covering letter.
