We’ve teamed up with The Emirates Literature Foundation to take CBC tutor and bestselling author Laura Barnett (The Versions of Us, Greatest Hits) to Dubai this October to teach two fiction writing courses, one for new writers and one for experienced writers. This is the first time that CBC courses will be held in Dubai.

Isobel Abulhoul, CEO and Trustee of the Emirates Literature Foundation said: “This is an unmissable opportunity for those who want to write but don’t know where to start, or established writers who want to sharpen their writing skills and learn from a bestselling author … We are thrilled to welcome Laura to Dubai. She is a fantastic writer, keen to impart her knowledge to the writing community here.”

The first three-day course for beginners (11-13 October) will help emerging writers unlock their creativity and start writing fiction. The course will focus on character and place and is designed to help writer embark on the path to discovering their own style. It will feature tutor-led discussions to inspire ideas and writing exercises to get creative juices flowing. Each member of the group will also receive a 20-minute individual tutorial with Laura.

The advanced writing course (17-19 October) is for writers already working on a novel or short story that would like some expert help to develop it. Applicants are required to submit the opening of their novel-in-progress or short story (up to 3,000 words) and a one-page synopsis by 25 August 2019. Fifteen students will be accepted based on the material submitted.

Successful applicants for the advanced course will take part in writing workshops and have the chance to delve deeper into the processes that underpin good writing and editing. It is also an opportunity for writers to meet like-minded people and create a network of support that can be invaluable to writers throughout their careers. Every student will receive a 20-minute individual tutorial with Laura focused on their work in progress. The course will culminate in an elevator pitch workshop with verbal feedback from Laura.

Both courses are limited to 15 participants and are open to those aged 18 and over. The courses will take place at the Creative Space in the Crowne Plaza, Dubai Festival City. Registration is open now for both courses!
