This Saturday, 22 September, the Curtis Brown book department will be at Foyles, Charing Cross Road, meeting new novelists. From 10.45am we’ll be hearing their pitches and giving feedback on their first pages in one-to-one meetings. We’ll also be answering their general questions about the industry in our surgery in the Foyles cafe. At 4.30pm there’ll be a prize draw with the winner getting a written reader’s report on their first three chapters. The day ends with a panel event from 5pm-6pm chaired by Karolina Sutton: Jonny Geller, Sam Humphreys (publisher, Michael Joseph), acclaimed author Salley Vickers and debut novelist Tim Glencross will offer their perspectives on the journey of the book from pen to publication, and will take questions from the audience. Discover day is already fully booked, with 250 new writers expected to turn up. However there are bound to be some no-shows, so come along and join our wild card queue if you’d like to take your chances on the day. We’ll be seeing as many writers as we can.
As well as expert teaching from published authors, all our novel-writing courses offer dedicated modules on submitting your novel to literary agents – and include sessions on writing a synopsis and preparing a covering letter. Click for more information or to apply for our creative writing courses.
