Back in November last year, Curtis Brown Creative held a special, one-day Discovery Day event at Foyles Bookshop on Charing Cross Road, London. Some of you may have heard of it. Actually, quite a lot of you did – hundreds of new writers queued to pitch their novels to the literary agents of Curtis Brown and Conville & Walsh, and attend special agent ‘surgeries’; and there was standing room only for the exclusive panel event that took place at the end of the day.
Well, for those that didn’t manage to squeeze into the room back then and for those of you for whom coming along to Discovery Day proved problematic, here’s a chance to see that panel event in full.
Chaired by Curtis Brown Creative director Anna Davis, the panel – which comprised Curtis Brown Joint CEO and literary agent Jonny Geller, Little, Brown publisher David Shelley, bestselling author SJ Watson and his agent Clare Conville of Conville & Walsh – discussed the future of the debut novel and the roles of traditional agenting and publishing in a fast-changing industry.
