Romantic fiction novel Maggie’s Kitchen by Caroline Beecham is published today

by Rufus Purdy Student Successes

Congratulations to our former student Caroline Beecham, whose debut romantic fiction novel Maggie’s Kitchen is published in the UK today by Ebury Press. Caroline – who was on one of our online writing courses in 2015 – shares her publication day with another former Curtis Brown Creative student: Laura Marshall, whose debut Friend Request also hits the shelves today.

Set during the Second World War, Maggie’s Kitchen is a heartwarming romantic saga. When the Ministry of Food urgently calls for the opening of restaurants to feed tired and hungry Londoners during the Blitz, aspiring cook Maggie Johnson seems close to realising a long-held dream. After overcoming a tangle of red tape, Maggie’s Kitchen finally opens its doors to the public and Maggie finds she has an unexpected problem – her restaurant is too popular, and there’s not enough food to go around.

Then Maggie takes 12-year-old street urchin Robbie under her wing and, through him, is introduced to a dashing Polish refugee, digging for victory on London’s allotments. Between them they will have to break the rules in order to put food on the table, and, perhaps, find love into the bargain…

Caroline, a British-born Australian-based author, writer and producer, is currently working on her second novel. She has worked as a writer, producer and director in Europe, the US and Australasia. And, as well as developing many of her own ideas for programming and adapting a bestselling book for the small screen, she has also written the novelisation of the film Rainbow.
