Born in Manchester, Howard Jacobson taught at the University of Sydney, Selwyn College, Cambridge, and – in the 1970s – Wolverhampton Polytechnic. His time in the Midlands was to form the basis of his first novel, Coming from Behind. The Mighty Walzer was the first of three of his novels to be longlisted for the Man Booker Prize, along with Who’s Sorry Now? and Kalooki Nights. He was awarded the Man Booker Prize for The Finkler Question in 2010. His latest novel, J, was shortlisted for the 2014 Man Booker Prize.
