Calling all playwrights

THEATRE503 FLYER
by Rufus Purdy Events

Though we at Curtis Brown Creative are perhaps best known for our creative writing courses, that doesn’t mean we’re not passionate about other forms of writing, too. We’ve recently given our support to the Theatre503 Playwriting Award, a competition for new playwrights, which aims to unearth the most promising talents writing for the stage today.

The award is an unprecedented opportunity for playwrights of all levels to be recognised for writing an outstanding, original piece of work. There are no restrictions on age, theatrical form or number of past productions – so whether you’ve never put pen to paper or already have numerous accolades, this is the competition for you.

The winning play will receive a prize of £6,000 and a guaranteed production in association with Theatre503 – one of the UK’s leading new-writing theatres. The judging panel for the award will include Dennis Kelly (Matilda the Musical, Utopia), Roy Williams (Sing Yer Heart Out For The Lads, Suckerpunch), Lily Williams (Curtis Brown), Erica Whyman (Associate Artistic Director, RSC and Chair, Theatre503), Tanya Ronda (Table, Vernon God Little), Henry Hitchings (Evening Standard), Chris Campbell (Royal Court) and Marianne Elliot (War Horse, Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time).

Playwrights who are eligible can also choose to be considered for the 2014-15 503Five Writer Residencies. This is a uniquely tailored programme of advanced training designed to launch the careers of five brand-new writers.
