Freelance moderator opportunity
BY Anna Davis
16th Dec 2022
Pretty much everyone who’s taken one of our four-, five- or six-week online courses will have encountered Paul, our wonderful moderator (quite possibly the uncrowned King of all forum moderation!).
But even our superhero moderator has his limits – and as we move towards what we hope will be a lively spring with lots of courses running, we reckon he’s going to need some help at particularly busy times …
We’re therefore seeking to establish a pool of freelance moderators, who are interested in taking on some occasional flexible work from home (a few hours here and there), looking after the online forums of our courses.
An additional perk, for those who are interested in writing, is that you’ll have free access to all teaching materials (videos, teaching notes and resources) in the CBC courses you’ll be working across.
Are you organised and efficient with technical nous, a passion for writing, good communication skills and the ability to read and digest information quickly?
The work mainly consists of:
- Offering basic advice in the forums to students who are having technical difficulties with our platform, or who have queries about features of their course.
- Keeping an eye out for forum posts that break our course guidelines – and alerting our courses management team where necessary.
Our ideal moderators would be:
- People who work/have worked as forum moderators (or similar).
- People who work/have worked in the provision of online education.
- People interested in creative writing, and who enjoy reading.
This work might suit you if …
- You’re looking for a little extra freelance work from home from time to time.
- You’d like some flexible work that fits around other commitments – existing work, study, childcare etc.
- You’re a good and sensitive communicator with an interest in helping and supporting writing students.
- You enjoy CBC’s online courses (or think you might!).
- You’re a UK resident for tax purposes.

Application deadline - 3pm (UK time), 5 January 2022.
Applications now closed.
We will be in touch with all applicants after the deadline, and successful applicants will be offered an informal interview on Zoom with one or more members of our courses management team.
(If you miss this deadline, there may still be future opportunities to join our moderator team. In that event, please email students@curtisbrowncreative.co.uk to enquire further).
