Covid-19 update London-based courses to return this autumn, with safety still our top concern – find out more here.

Covid-19 and our in-person creative writing courses

We are delighted to be offering London-based courses again. However, our safety is our primary concern, please fin our current Covid protocol below.

We are delighted to be offering London-based courses again. It’s great for many of our students to be meeting and working with their tutors in-person.

However, your safety – and that of our tutors and guest speakers – is our first priority. Some classes and sessions will be delivered via Zoom – see individual course descriptions for details. And if circumstances necessitate it, we will move further sessions to Zoom (or indeed move all classes to Zoom). In the event of London-based courses running entirely on Zoom and on our bespoke online platform, partial reimbursements will apply – see individual course descriptions for further information.

Our current Covid protocol follows below. It is reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis, as necessary, by the Curtis Brown Creative team, to take into account current guidance – and we require that all of our staff and in-person students agree to abide by it. We hope this will offer reassurance to prospective students at this time of uncertainty.

I should just add that all of our online courses continue to run as normal.

Best wishes

Anna Davis

Covid-19 Protocol

All of our in-person classes will be held at a comfortable, spacious venue in central London, that will be fully compliant with government rules on distancing and hygiene. Students will receive a schedule with times, dates, and locations well in advance of all sessions. Should changes to government guidance on Covid-19 mean that we must cancel the in-person elements of any course, we will move the remaining sessions to Zoom.

Out of consideration for fellow students, tutors and staff we require that all students and tutors complete a lateral flow test within 24-hours prior to attending any London class. The test should be taken as close to the start time of your class as possible.

If you receive a positive result, please do not come to class
(see below for details about joining the class via Zoom). More information about tests can be found here.

If you’re feeling unwell, have any symptoms of a cough or cold OR if you or a member of your household are self-isolating: Out of consideration for your fellow students, please don’t come to class in London if you’re feeling unwell (whether or not from Covid-related symptoms – and however trivial your symptoms), or if you or a member of your household are self-isolating.

If you will not be able to attend a London class in person, please notify your tutor and course manager by email with 48-hours’ notice wherever possible.

In these circumstances, you will be able to join the London classes via Zoom – though please note that this will be via a laptop in the classroom, and while you will be able to hear everything your tutor says, you may not be able to hear or fully participate in the full discussion of the rest of the class. For this reason, joining a London class via Zoom should only be done in these circumstances, or if you are unable to attend for another reason.

Moving sessions to Zoom

If attendance to a London class is impacted due to the above reasons, your tutor may elect to move the session to Zoom and will – where possible – provide 24-hours’ notice.

In the event of courses running entirely on Zoom and on our online platform, partial reimbursements of your fees will apply (see individual course descriptions for details).

Face coverings and social distancing

While the wearing of masks or face-coverings are not mandatory in our venues at this time, mask-wearing is strongly advised in communal spaces, and we would encourage mask-wearing in sessions as a precautionary measure.
