Manuscript Report
Take your manuscript further with detailed feedback from one of our expert editors.
We’ll match you with one of our expert editors based on the genre and style of your book. Your editor will then read your manuscript in full and give detailed feedback on your work, including in-depth advice on how to address any problem areas. We offer full (or partial) manuscript reports for the following:
- Novels written for adults
- Novels written for children (older than 7) or young adults
- Memoir
- Narrative non-fiction
My editor advised me on how to strengthen the plot and make the characters more complex . . . She was supportive and highlighted the strengths of the manuscript which made me far more confident about my writing. I also had a consultation with her afterwards, and she was very generous with her advice and suggestions.

Full Manuscript Reports
Your report will comprise at least 1,500 words and cover structural issues, such as plotting, characterisation, narrative perspective, writing style, voice and pace. Your editor will explain what’s working well in your manuscript and what could be improved to take your work to the next level. They won’t take up valuable space in the report summarising your book and the plot; they will instead focus on specific areas to develop and hone as well as highlighting particular strengths in your work, giving you a clear direction and the confidence to move forward with your edits.
Partial Manuscript Reports
If you’re in need of guidance midway through your draft, you can also opt for a partial manuscript report focusing on up to 40,000 words of your novel-in-progress.
As with the full manuscript report, your editor will provide feedback on what’s working well and what could be improved, looking specifically at your plot, characters, structure and pacing. We recommend including an outline of what you think will happen next (to be included in the total word count), so that your editor can also provide a steer on any pitfalls or challenges to bear in mind – hopefully giving you the direction you need to write to the end of your novel with confidence.
Consultation
For an additional fee of £300, you can add on a one-hour consultation with your editor. This consultation will take place within one month of your receipt of the manuscript report. You will be able to use this time to discuss your editor’s feedback, ask questions and explore different ways of implementing their suggested edits and changes to your manuscript.
