Edit & pitchOur New Writers’ Day will commence with 70 budding writers pitching to literary agents and meeting publishing professionals.
Successful applicants will each get a 15-minute one-to-one pitch meeting with a literary agent from Curtis Brown or C&W followed by a roundtable discussion with two publishing industry professionals.
Our Pitch Morning is suitable for unpublished, unagented writers working on adult fiction, YA or middle grade.
We have 30 free slots available for writers from under-represented backgrounds, please read to the bottom of this page to find out more.
15-minute pitch meeting
- Your one-to-one will begin with you reading out your pre-submitted two-line book pitch.
- The literary agent you are paired with will give you feedback and advice on the novel’s pitch (referring to the materials submitted alongside your application).
- Finally, you can use your remaining time for follow-up questions before moving to the Q&A roundtable.
Literary agents
You will have a 15-mintue one-to-one with one of the following members of the C&W or Curtis Brown Book Departments. More agents to be announced.
Industry Q&A roundtable
After each 15-minute pitch meeting slot a group of 10 writers will be directed to an industry roundtable. The writers will join a Q&A discussion table featuring two publishing professionals, where they will be invited to ask their burning questions about submitting to agents and publishing, the editorial process and a books path to publication.

Ready to apply?
Tickets for this special Pitch Morning are limited – so we’re asking for budding writers to submit a brief application.
Please apply with the opening 1,000 words of your novel, a one-page synopsis and two-line ‘elevator’ pitch.
40 successful applicants will pay £15 to confirm their Pitch Morning ticket.
As part of our Breakthrough Writers' Programme, We also have 30 free places available for writer from under-represented backgrounds. (20 in-person pitching slots and 10 online slots for those unable to travel to London, these will take place on Zoom). We are particularly interested in hearing from writers of colour, disabled writers, LGBTQIA+ writers and writers with low income.
