Catherine Johnson
Catherine Johnson has written over 20 books for children and young adults, including Sawbones, which won the Young Quills Prize for best Historical Fiction in the 12+ category and was nominated for the Carnegie medal in 2015. Her book Freedom won the 2019 Little Rebels Award for Radical Children's Fiction. Arctic Hero, her biography of Mathew Henson, was shortlisted for many awards and selected in 2008 as part of the Booked Up scheme, which distributes free books to Year Seven pupils across England. As well as books she writes screenplays for film and TV. Her film and TV work includes scripting the feature film Bullet Boy, and for the BBC Simon Schama’s Rough Crossings and Holby City. Catherine has worked as a mentor and teacher for many years.
