Michelle Misra
Michelle is a freelance editor with over 30 years in the industry. She has worked at Hachette, HarperCollins and latterly at Simon & Schuster (S&S) amongst others. She has commissioned titles from young fiction (5+ years) and middle grade (9+ years) right through to YA. Many of the books she has edited have gone on to win or been shortlisted for several major awards, including the Carnegie Medal, the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize, the UKLA Book Awards, the Branford Boase Award and the Lollies.
Michelle says that when assessing a book, the most important thing for her is a unique narrative voice and a strong empowering central character. One of the highlights of her publishing career was editing the legendary Carnegie-Medal-winning author Beverley Naidoo on her latest novel. Beverley’s most famous work, Journey to Jo’Burg, was banned in South Africa in the late eighties under the Apartheid regime, when Michelle was still at school.
S&S Managing Director, Rachel Denwood, has said of Michelle: ‘It has been a pleasure to reunite with Michelle at S&S. I hold great editors in the highest regard and Michelle truly is one of the finest, dedicated to her craft and to her authors.’
