How did you get started as an agent? What was your path into the industry?
I worked in film & TV production and wanting to get a wider overview of the industry I joined Curtis Brown as an assistant in 2014.
When you receive a query from a screenwriter what makes project stand out? Is there anything you’d like to see drop into your inbox?
Agents get so many emails a personal approach is always best!
I’m a fan of pulpy genre and so it’s an exciting time to be working in the industry as the UK invests more in horror, sci-fi and elevated thrillers.
What do you think makes convincing dialogue for the screen?
I really enjoy conversational dialogue on the page that feels natural, and can be interrupted, trail off and have subtext just under the surface.
What TV dramas have you enjoyed watching recently? Are there any series that you would recommend for budding screenwriters to watch?
Industry, The Last of Us, The Baby, Lockwood & Co, Severance, Bad Sisters…
Finally, can you share one top tip for the aspiring screenwriters reading this?
Grow your network and keep other writers in your life as friends – they will be most able to relate to the peaks and troughs of the job.
